Ikigai testAn honest inventory

It doesn’t tell you what to do with your life. It tells you where you are starting from: what you do, how you live it and what deserves your attention this week.

Ikigai doesn’t fit in four circles

Most ikigai tests repeat the four-circle diagram: what you love, what you are good at, what the world needs and what you can be paid for. In the middle, a profession. It is useful for getting your ideas in order, but it leaves out half of ikigai.

In El Ikigai que no te contaron I work with two dimensions that live side by side. Active Ikigai is the doing: direction, abilities, what you contribute. Conscious Ikigai is the being: whether you are present in what you do, whether you can be who you are, whether your life has value beyond what you achieve. An ikigaier doesn’t choose between the two. They learn to move in both.

This test explores both at once. If you want the full framework, start with what ikigai is.

Sixteen questions, all from the book

  • Active Ikigai

    What you do

The four questions of the ikigai map and one sentence from the CAMINO test: what others recognise in you.

  • Conscious Ikigai

    How you live it

Whether you were fully there yesterday, whether you can be who you are, whether you negotiate your values, whether you have someone close.

  • Between the two

    What you have left

The pace your day demands and the energy you have left at the end for what also matters.

A snapshot of today, not a profile

  1. Your two columns

What your answers say about your Active Ikigai and your Conscious Ikigai, side by side.

  2. What holds you and what deserves attention

Concrete observations, each with a passage from the book. If there is nothing to point out, nothing is invented.

  3. One exercise for your week

Only one, from the book, chosen from your answers. Whatever you write in the open question is given back to you as it is.

When you finish, if you like, you can sign up for free to “A month getting to know your ikigai”: an email a week for four weeks, from the day you join, with an exercise from the book, and optional group meetings.

No ideal job, no percentages

It doesn’t give you a profession, an ikigai percentage or a personality label. No test can tell you what your ikigai is: what an ikigai test can tell you (and what it can’t). This one shows you where you are starting from, so that the work of recognising it begins somewhere real.

An ikigaier doesn’t choose between the two. They learn to move in both.

From El Ikigai que no te contaron

Before you start

Is the ikigai test free?

Yes. It is free and you don’t need to create an account. You see your reading on screen when you finish. If you like, you can ask for it to be emailed to you.

Does this test tell me what my ikigai is?

No. No test can tell you what your ikigai is, because ikigai is not calculated: it is recognised. This test shows you where you are starting from in its two dimensions, what holds you and what deserves attention, and suggests an exercise from the book for that week.

What is it based on?

On the book El Ikigai que no te contaron, by Manel Rueda. All the questions come from its exercises, and the reading uses quotes and exercises from the book. It is not a validated psychological instrument or a diagnosis.

What are Active Ikigai and Conscious Ikigai?

Active Ikigai is the dimension of doing: direction, abilities, contribution, what you build. Conscious Ikigai is the dimension of being: presence, coherence and the sense that your life has value as it is. The test explores both.

Does it work if I don’t have paid work?

Yes. The questions refer to your main occupation, whether that is a job, caring for others, studying, looking for work or retirement.

What happens after the test?

You see your reading and, if you like, we email it to you. If you want to keep going, you can sign up for free to “A month getting to know your ikigai”: an email a week for four weeks, from the day you join, with an exercise from the book, and optional group meetings. In week four you retake the test and see what has changed.

What happens to my answers?

Closed answers are stored without personal data, to improve the test. Your email and anything you write in the open question are only stored if you ask to receive the reading by email. Receiving other communications is a separate, optional tick box. More detail in the privacy policy.
